How students can support diverse voices

Learn more about different organizations on campus and attend events organized by a wide range of groups. Showing up for different events and activities exposes you to new ideas and helps further dialogue.

Support the right to free speech—even when you disagree with the content of that speech. Supporting someone’s right to speech is in no way an endorsement of it. But protecting others’ right to speak protects yours as well. 

Be mindful of language and reflect on the history and implications of certain words and phrases that may alienate others.

Encourage others to speak for what they believe in. Amplify your peers’ voices when you can. Facilitate dialogues and debates within and across student groups.

Invite diverse voices to participate in events. Note when certain perspectives are missing.

Or start one! Peer educators can play an important role in supporting diverse voices, increasing understanding, and facilitating dialogue.

Advocate for student governments to fund student organizations equitably. This means ensuring that funding is distributed in a way that is content-neutral and non-discriminatory.
